City of Rocks

view from ontop campsite boulder

This last weekend we took our annual trip to City of Rocks for Danny’s 30th birthday. We had a great campsite with a huge bouldering rock right next to our tents. We climbed ontop of it and discovered we also had a great view!

The usual suspects were there (Ryan, Nicole, and Kris minus Mina).  We also had the pleasure of having Matt and his new fiance come up and stay the night with us. We were very excited to meet Casey.  Danny loves having family around.

Sydney was pretty scared the first day. All the big rocks and falling down alot was not something she is used to. She needed alot of attention anyway since we didn’t want her rolling down the hill.

This was my first climb on Elephant Rock. It was pretty sketchy at first but the last 10 feet you could almost walk up it. Check out my arms!

There was alot of fun little bouldering around Elephant Rock. This is my favorite of all the pics I took this weekend.

Matthew climbed considerably better than last year. He has only gone once since then too! He climbed this really hard climb called Collosus.

Everywhere we climbed offered amazing views of the City of Rocks valley.

Danny learned some new skills this weekend. Since he had some bruised ribs from a dirt-bike accident he really had to learn to rely on his legs.

Danny loved seeing Sydney get dirty. She was covered from head to toe. She was throwing dirt on everything. Danny and Sydney decided to bury my unopened Powerade. I cleaned it off really good before opening it and still ended up with a gritty drink.

Danny finished a climb that he only got halfway up last year. I was so proud of him.

After our City of Rocks trip, we jumped down to Pocatello to see Josh, who has just come home from his mission to Guam. He gave his report in Sacrament meeting and we were glad to be able to attend. We also got to see Dave, Kierstin and Kylie. Sydney and Kylie had a rough start. Kylie is very affectionate and I think it scared Sydney a little.

Happy Birthday Danny! We are sorry we missed going to the City of Rocks. That is such a neat place. The Boy Scouts demanded Dave’s attention and we weren’t able to come. Sounds like a fun tradition. Hopefully we can come with you next year. It was good to see you guys this past weekend. We wish we could see you guys more. I bet the next time we get together Kylie and Sid will be great friends and hopefully Kylie won’t tackel her as much. Glad to see Danny had a great birthday!

Your haircut looks like Katie Holmes, it looks good on you! You didn’t get any pictures of Casey and Matt though.

I did get pics of Casey and Matt but they looked like monkeys grooming each other so I thought it would be weird to post. 🙂

Sydney’s cheeks are wind-chapped. It was dry too. Not cold at all.
