The Skyfort

Danny had some little bonuses here and there that piled up and we thought hard about what we wanted to spend it on. See, we have always used bonuses for ‘extras’. We promised ourselves we wouldn’t spend it on groceries or other needed items. We went to RC Willey hoping to see something we might like and when we pulled up there were jungle gyms set up outside the store. PERFECT! But, we didn’t feel like spending what they were asking for them.  After searching the internet we found one that was a reasonable price that included everything that we liked. It was at Sam’s Club. So after becoming members, we brought home four 200 lb boxes and a slide. After unpacking and organizing the pieces all over our back yard, the sight was pretty daunting, but we were up for the task. We started on a Saturday morning and worked until dark. Three days later and it was complete. Danny is amazing and I am so impressed with his skills.  We also built a picnic table last night to match. It only cost us 38 bucks to make!!

I can’t keep Sydney in the house now. She figured out how to unlock the sliding glass door and I found her out there with no pants on and her shoes on the wrong feet going down the slide. She is so brave.

We replaced one of the swings with a half-bucket toddler w/chain. Sydney loves to go high and clucks her tongue when she reaches the peak of her swing. Kali loves to swing with mom on the two person swing.  We are in the process of picking out a new swing for Kali. We’ve looked at several therapy and accessible sets but we are still undecided.

We are blessing Nick this Sunday and having a lunch afterward with family and friends. We figured we would need somewhere for them to sit and eat. Hopefully the sealer and stain will be dry by then!

We were pretty busy this month!

We had a pretty good wind storm that claimed many shingles in the neighborhood (thankfully not ours) and our back fence.

lots of fence to put up!

We first dug out two truckloads of dirt from the back corner. The owners before us had some kind of pond and left a big pile of dirt that sloped and was pushing on the fence.  With some help, Danny dug holes and concreted in new posts. Our neighbor kitty-corner to our backyard offered some help as our fence was supporting his. He was a BIG help. Sydney loved playing in the yard while we helped.

I made these lovely eggs using a pattern I found here. They were really easy and I learned some new skills. I put them out in the yard with the candy-filled plastic eggs on Easter.

I also made Nick a Sunday shirt. He looked so handsome on Sunday and received many compliments on his tie.

We took a trip to Utah in Mid-April to visit Danny’s siblings. Jill is officially engaged and we finally got to meet Tommy. We absolutely LOVE him. He and Jill are a great match.

Syd, Nick, and I went with Danny to an appointment with a client that lives up in Idaho City (in the mountains). It was a fun drive, a beautiful view and on the way home we stopped at a dam and I happened to have my tripod and camera in the car! Too bad Kali wasn’t with us (she was at preschool). It would have been a great family photo!

Future posts to include: Easter, Kris’s birthday, and new addition to our house.

The trees just started to blossom this last week. We planted two new trees this year. One is a peach and the other is a hybrid apple (4 different kinds of branches grafted on).

Saturday we went for a little day trip on one of Idaho’s Scenic Byways. We took a drive around the Owyhee Mountains. It was pretty muddy, but our Tahoe had no problem. The kids were mostly happy except for when we stopped for a picnic (???). Sydney and Kali cried almost the whole time. Nick was an angel. He only woke up cause I changed and fed him.

The Owyhee Uplands are filled with miles and miles of juniper trees, sagebrush, rocky ridges, creeks, and rivers.

We didn’t see the sun until about 3:30 when we emerged out of the hills and back to the freeway. It was a fun little adventure and I got to take a few pictures, although, I didn’t get to spend any time taking interesting ones cause it was way to cold outside to be patient and set up.

We’re all getting a bit more sleep now that Nick only wakes up one time during the night. It’s great. I also kicked him out of my room last week which has also helped a ton.

Sydney has been a great helper. She is great at taking diapers to the garbage. She has been a little emotional lately but I discovered this morning it was probably because she has a mouth full of new teeth. At least 6 in the last week. Poor girl…

I finally have a home for my sewing machine. I really want to be more skilled at sewing and I made a couple little projects that are cheap and easy for practice with zippers and batting.

iPod Cozy

I first made this sleeve for my iPod. I only wish I hadn’t waited till it was done to sew on the button. It was hard to fish the needle in and out of the sleeve.

I used a tutorial that I found on Sew Mama Sew.

I was then in the mood to sew and went ahead with my next project: the boxy pouch. I figured it would be a good project for sewing my first zipper. I think I did a pretty good job.
